| "A stack of socks. They better hope that none of them have any holes." |
Yesterday my
family and I were hurriedly getting ready to go outside. We’ve enjoyed the weather outside lately,
like really. As I was instructing my kids to get shoes and coats on I looked down at my sock and saw a small hole in
it. In that moment I was flooded with a
funny memory from my childhood. I generally regard my memory to be of poor quality, but in
reality I have these flashback moments from time-to-time. I just need to write about them when I do.
The memory that I
was reminded of, from the hole in my sock, was of something my mom would do
when we were kids. To this day I have no
idea why she did this. But, anytime we
had a hole in our socks my mom would morph into the Incredible Hulk (Or
pre-hair cut Samson) and would rip our sock in half, starting from the
hole. With no explanation. This happened often to the point
when I would unconsciously do it as well, without reason, just because that’s
what you do with socks that have holes. Like
I said, I don’t know why she did this, but I do know that if there where such a thing as P.E.T.S. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Socks) they would be
enraged with her.
My brother and I still talk about how our mom
would do this and it makes me smile to think about it. It’s funny the things we remember; thank you mom for your craziness.
What funny
memories do you have?
much love,
